Everything You Need To Know About Spotify Wrapped: 2022

I’m not going to lie guys, 2022 sucked and I can’t wait for it to end.

2023 could not come any sooner, but as we close the worst post-pandemic year yet, my favorite cherry on top of the holiday season has finally arrived: Spotify Wrapped. And they did not disappoint, or I should say, my listening habits did not disappoint.

In the most accurate breakdown of my musical taste yet, Spotify’s Wrapped tradition is something I look forward to every Christmas. There’s something about seeing all the artists I was into over months past, and also what all my friends are into as well. It’s one thing to talk about it in conversation, it’s one to see it in a dynamic, personalized format. It’s something akin to astrology for me.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Spotify Wrapped, I’ll explain a few things before I dive in to this year’s psychoanalysis of my chaotic library of tunes:

What Is Spotify Wrapped?

Spotify Wrapped is a campaign where the platform pulls data and statistics from your listening history over the past year (well, technically the past 10-11 months). It covers everything from total minutes listened, your top (or most frequently listened to) artists, and even a personality profile based on your most popular picks. For me this year, I was the “adventurer,” the ENVU.

In addition, I listened to 58 different genres, over 2100 different artists, and over 34,700 minutes of music this year: more than 85% of most listeners in the United States.

My top genres were no surprise in 2022: I apparently have missed dancing, because my top five were Electro House, Drift Phonk, Progressive House, Pop and Dark Trap.

Sxmpra and Istasha were among my top artists, and you can read more about them here in my previous blogs. Oh and Sxmpra? I was in his top 0.1% of listeners this year, so I guess you could say I really, really liked him.

When Does Spotify Wrapped Start Tracking?

Spotify starts tracking on January 1st of the new year.

When Does Spotify Wrapped Stop Tracking?

Some sources say they stop tracking on Halloween, October 31st, and some others say they track up until the release date.

When Does Spotify Wrapped Come Out?

Spotify Wrapped is usually released the day before December starts, November 30th.

How To See Spotify Wrapped?

Spotify usually sends you a pop-up upon opening the app on your phone, or they will send you a promotional email if you’re opted-in for those. It’s only available on mobile devices. After your first viewing or if you ‘X’ out of the pop-up, it will be on the home page of your Spotify account.

How To ‘Get’ Spotify Wrapped?

Spotify gives you opportunities to share the slides on social media as it’s playing. Just follow the prompts, or if you’re old fashioned like me, I take screenshots with my phone.

Spotify Wrapped Not Working – What To Do

If Spotify Wrapped isn’t working for you, or comes up with an error message, there are a few solutions I’ve found browsing the internet. Here are a few things to try before throwing your phone across the room:

  • Close the app fully and reopen. If it still doesn’t work, you may have to uninstall the app, and reinstall it

  • Clear your app’s cache in your profile settings

  • Make sure you have the latest version of the app on your phone, or you may have to update it in the Play Store or App Store

  • Make sure your phone’s been updated recently too. You may have to restart your phone and try to open the app again afterward.

  • Log out and log back in

  • Contact Spotify at their support page here.

Spotify Wrapped is the thing that lifts my spirits every year. Holidays aren’t exactly my best mental health seasons, but every time I get surprised with my little music personality profile, I feel happy and giddy like a high schooler all over again. All my friends start sharing theirs on their Instagram Stories (and they’re almost always super spot-on), my coworkers discuss it at lunch and I get to compare mine with my partner’s when I get home. Sometimes I’ll re-discover songs I was into at the beginning of the year and reminisce, others will reaffirm I chose the right genre for me.

However you slice it, Spotify Wrapped has been bringing us joy for seven years. It will be interesting to see how it continues to change over time, both introspectively and interpersonally. Maybe next year, my musical zodiac will be completely different!
