31 Days Of Halloween: A Funk Punk Lives Playlist
Halloween is a time of the year beloved by most across the nation. From the costumes to the yard decorations, new movies to fun events, it gives people something to look forward to before the chill of winter settles in. While the allure of pumpkin spice lattes and cinnamon candles calls out to the basic girl in me, nothing gets me more excited for autumn like a good spooky playlist.
This year I decided to make a Spotify playlist for each of the 31 days of Halloween, dedicated to tracks outside of your typical ‘Monster Mash’ or ‘Thriller’ favorites. I wanted to create a compilation that wasn’t the overplayed tunes we’ve heard since we were five years old. I wanted something grittier and edgier, something you could put on at a kickback with friends that puts everyone in the mood for the holiday without killing the vibe with corny, overtly-themed classics. Don’t get me wrong, the kids’ tunes are great — if you have kids — but this mix is a little more mature.
With a variety of rock, punk, indie and even some dark wave, here are my picks for Halloween 2021:
Halloween by Dead Kennedys
Brian Eno by MGMT
From The Pinnacle To The Pit by Ghost
Lullaby by The Cure
Salem (Burn The Witch) by Nothing More
Bela Lugosi’s Dead by Bauhaus
Howlin’ For You by The Black Keys
Spellbound by Siouxsie And The Banshees
Perhaps Vampires Is A Bit Strong But… by Arctic Monkeys
Dead Souls by Joy Division
You’ve Seen The Butcher by Deftones
Tokyo Witch by Beach House
Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps) by David Bowie
Zombie Dance by The Cramps
The Acrid Corpse by King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard
Psycho by Muse
An Evening With El Diablo by Chevelle
Vampire Money by My Chemical Romance
Black Widow by Cage The Elephant
Goodnight Moon by Shivaree
End Of The Night by The Doors
Swamp by Talking Heads
Waiting For The Worms by Pink Floyd
Heavy Breather by Model/Actriz
Halloween All Year by The Orwells
Where The Night Ends by Together Pangea
Graveyard by The Devil Makes Three
Судно (Борис Рыжий) by Molchat Doma
I Think It Might Be Hell by Clarence James
Comet Face by King Krule
*Lost In The Shadows by Lou Gramm
*I didn’t want to put too many songs that were from movie soundtracks on this list, but this last one was a must for me personally. “The Lost Boys” is one of my favorite movies of all time, even outside of Halloween.
