14 Days Of Love: A Valentine’s Day Playlist By Funk Punk Lives

Valentine’s Day used to be my favorite holiday. Now I’m about to go full basic bitch here, but being a Pisces, I’m a diehard hopeless romantic by nature. As a teenager I used to blast music in the car on the way to school daydreaming about someone who would sweep me off my feet in some cliche way, or insert myself into my favorite movie scene with that character I was obsessed with. I’m a dreamer, an idealist and sensitive crybaby, but it doesn’t take much to make me happy on this mushy-gushy holiday. Nothing gets me in the feels like hours of angsty bops or love anthems to tug on those tear-jerker heart strings.

Whether you’re in a committed relationship, are casually playing the field or flying solo, I’d like to share some of my favorite love songs with you, happy or sad – because love isn’t always flowers and chocolates. It’s one of the most epic things we do as human beings and is arguably one of the most powerful forces that exists in our universe. We are social creatures seeking connection, even if it’s simply platonic.

This year I’d like to give you a playlist that fully encapsulates that experience. From indie to pop to folk, I’ve never felt more love out of life than through song. The ones you’ll find below are from my sappy soul to you and wherever you are in the world, I hope it finds you warmly.
